Racing for the Cure: Beyondus and the Arthritis Foundation
F1 Boston Corporate Grand Prix
Boston, Massachusetts – October 2, 2004
On a picturesque Saturday morning, the morning
air rattled with engine roars as twenty-two high performance
F1 racecars and their teams tore around the F1 Boston
Braintree track in the "Best of the Hub Corporate
Grand Prix.” Sponsored by the Massachusetts chapter
of the Arthritis Foundation, the all-day event included
driver training, racing, and awards and entertainment
that included casino night, auctions, and dinner. Among
the participants includes such respected companies as
Accenture, Deloitte Consulting, EMC, Merrill Lynch,
Promografix, and Wellington Management.
To fulfill their online marketing needs, the Arthritis
Foundation called upon event participant Beyondus to
assist with the ideation process. Notable functions
of the website included the signup feature that allows
for registration and access to information available
online. Beyondus also initiated the foundation’s
email account, http://www.beyondus.com/_clients/arthritis/landing_page.html.
Initially, Beyondus was attending the event on a voluntary level, but a late drop by a registered team opened up an opportunity to participate in the main race, where three team members all get the chance to drive a F1 machine. Although the members of the Beyondus race team were novices to the sport, they managed to take the top qualifying spot in the consolation race, missing championship placement by only 1/10 of a second. Beginner’s luck didn’t hold, however, as unfortunate crashes and subsequent penalties relegated the team to last place in the standings, but was fondly remembered by event sponsor, participants, and beneficiaries alike.
The effort was held to raise money to support and raise awareness for the 1.5 million people of the Massachusetts population who are affected by arthritis. The mission of the Arthritis Foundation is to improve lives through leadership in the prevention, control and cure of arthritis and related diseases. The Arthritis Foundation is the only national not-for-profit organization that supports more than 100 types of arthritis and related conditions with advocacy programs, services and research. Nearly 70 million Americans must deal with these afflictions on a daily basis.
